Munich Germany Week 21

Hi friends and family!

This week has gone by fast with lots of cool things going on! I will try to mention some of the highlights.

So last week we got a referral from the church of a girl who lives in Munich. We went by to meet her and we had a great talk at the door but she was busy at the time. She told us to come back the next morning so talk a little bit more. We met the next morning and got to know her a little better. She is 19 and from England and has lived in Germany for the past few months being a nanny for a family here in Munich. She got to know the church from a family in England that she is really good
friends with. She talked with them about the church but she never got too serious with it. She came to Germany and somethings happened in her life that made her think on the things her friend had taught her.  Her made the decision after a lot of thinking to get in contact with the missionaries so she submitted her name online for a missionary visit. We met with her twice this week and we have really started small because she has not been really religious in her life. We are helping her develop faith through ready the Book of Mormon and praying everyday. She has already read tons of the Book of Mormon and it has helped her so much! We arranged it with a member on Thursday night to have us over for dinner and to invite her too. We had a great time and then watched the restoration video and it was such a great lesson! She made it to the relief society sowing activity last night with a member
too so she is loving the Ward and the Ward her too! We are so happy for her and excited to see where things go!

We also had a great lesson with Sister Opare again. She is making tons of progress. Her original baptismal date was next week but we pushed it back into November. She is doing well but just needs to learn at her own pace which is most important. There is no point rushing the decision to get baptized! She will get there soon!

So today we had an interesting Pday. We went to that same really cool lake we have been to before but last time we were there I saw a gondola going up one of the mountains so I did a little research and we went back today to go for a ride! It was really cold and cloudy at the top. There was even snow! Haha it was really fun and we took tons of pictures. Of course we took the opportunity for Elder Samuelson and I to wear our Lederhose which was totally worth it!

Well those were some cool parts of my week! I hope everyone has a great week!

Liebe Grüße

Munich Germany Week 20

Hi friends and family!

Wow the weeks have been going really fast lately. I feel like I was just writing emails yesterday! But hey that is a good thing I guess. This week has been full of good cool things I can talk about!

We had MLC again which is that Mission Leadership Counsel in Munich this week. Elder Derksen and I make the travel plan for stuff like that which is fun. Everyone meets in Munich on Thursday night and we all watched a Jeffery R. Holland talk to kick things off. Nothing better than getting called to repentance by good old Mr. Holland. We have a six hour meeting the next day and learned tons of good things. The focus of the mission right now if mastering the message. Things like memorizing scriptures for all PMG points of everything we teach. President Kohler really believes when we master the message we are preaching we will be able to bring more souls unto Christ. I couldn't agree more! MLC is always fun and very uplifting. I love to see a lot of my friends from around our HUGE mission!

We have had some good lessons with people too! I will give a little summary.

Sister Opare - We met this week and have a great lesson talking about the plan of salvation. She is really open and humble at this point so she basically eats up everything we teach. She was amazing that even in the Bible the plan of salvation in taught. We got her a Book of Mormon in her native African language of Twi which is what most people speak in Ghana. She really loved that:)

Ahmed - Ahmed is new this week! The ZL's we live with found him and we met with them at our church yesterday! He is a 17 year old kid from Sierra Leon and he is way cool! We found like halfway in the lesson that he is friends with Osman who got baptized like 1 month before I got to Munich. Kind of a funny coincidence but they claim that everyone from Sierra Leon in Germany knows each other. We had a way cool first lesson with him and he said he wants to get baptized so that is good! He promised he would come to church with Osman so we will see what happens:)

Also big highlight was pumpkin carving last night with the youth of our ward! We all went pretty hard and I was pretty creating! I thought I had it in the bag when I produced a beautiful silhouette of a temple, but i got a little cocky and carved a window till i realized I put a big cross right in the middle of the temple. It will fit right in as a catholic church here in Germany;) Ill get redemption next year.

I have not written since General Conference which was obviously a huge highlight of the week. It is always amazing to hear from the servants of the Lord. As I was watching conference I was thinking a lot of the fact that "whom the Lord calls he qualifies". As I was watching President Monson hold on to the pulpit as tight as he could sinking down slowly it was quite clear to me that he was planning on finishing that testimony! He has given so much of his life to the Lord and it is amazing to see him preform on the level he does. He is just a mortal man, but the Lord has qualified and strengthened him to preform the calling he has. We are all just normal people too but the Lord with qualify us in anything He asks us to do! Even serve a mission!

Well friends that is the report. Hope everyone has a great week! God bless you all.

Yours truly and forever and ever in eternity,

Elder Lyman

Munich German Week 19

Hi my great family and friends!

Well this week has been tons of good I must say! I will try to make things interesting as much as I can then give a little update on the people we are teaching!

So a big highlight of the week was we had Zone Conference here in Munich. We got together with the Stuttgart Germany Zone which is always fun! I feel like most of my friends on my mission have already gone home but I guess I have plenty of time to make some new friends! haha Before the meeting started we all gathered in the gym and got flu shots so that was cool. I don't think I had ever had one before so it was a nice experience. But the actual Conference was really good. We talked a lot about working with members and how important it is. Working with the members here can be tricky sometimes but it can be done! We have really made that a focus in are area so we will see how it works out! We all read and studied a cool case study made my Clayton Christiensen about working with members and how it helps. Learned a lot of new things I want to try. We will see how it goes.

Obviously, things are getting pretty heated for General Conference starting today. All the missionaries are getting pretty pumped up for it. General Conference is like Christmas on a mission. We could not be more lucky to have the chance to hear from all the great people in the church! We made some serious premeditated calls on the new apostles in comp study today so if things go my way I could end up with the winnings of German chocolate. fingers crossed.

Well i would love to give a little update on our investigators! We have seen some great things happen this week!

Sister Opare - Sister Opare is going really well! She is learning and understanding at her own pace and we are so happy for her! We had another lesson with her and her husband last night and it went great! She has been playfully studying the things we teach her and we are confident she will be baptized with in this next month! It helps to have her member husband teaching us with her so much!
Charles and Omoye  - They are still doing great! They have been taught about everything they need to be baptized and come to church every week, we are just still waiting to get some paperwork they need to get married legally here in Germany before they get baptized! She is actually pregnant and she found out she is having a boy and they picked out the name Triumph! Tons of good name!

Andrew and Rebecca - We were so happy because Andrew and Rebecca got callings last week! He is a ward missionary and she works in the nursery! They love it so much and are so happy to serve! They are literally so excited for General Conference I think they might have heart attacks. They have a long list of questions so they can put the brethren, "to the test" haha

Emmanuel - One of our most promising investigators who was going to get baptized next week has kind of dropped out the face of the earth. We have not had contact in two weeks and just cant seem to get a hold of him. We will keep trying. More info on that to come.

We are teaching some other cool people but i don't really have time to talk about all of them! As we keep teaching them I will give updates!

Well that was our week! We are going to enjoy the nice fall weather here in Munich before GC tonight! I cant wait for all the great talks and testimonies! I hope everyone enjoys it as much as I will! Have a great week and God bless all of you!

Liebe Grüße,
Elder Lyman

Munich German Week 18

Hi my wonderful group of friends and family!

Things in the office and going good. Elder Derksen and I had our first full week together and it went great! We are great friends and it is really fun to work with him. We have tons in common and think the same way so that is good. He is learning everything in the office really fast and does good work. We make a good team I would say. It have been really nice having him around to life the work load off my shoulders a little bit so that is nice. I hope to train him on all the office work for maybe two transfers then I will come out of my cocoon and fly out of the office! hehe

Well we have had some good and bads this week with some of the people that we are teaching. Emmanuel who is super cool and was going to get baptized this week has kind of fallen off the face of the earth. We just cant get a hold of him! We call him a few times everyday and have visited him where he lives and just cant seem to find the guy! We will keep trying and I am sure that he will turn up eventually!

We met again with Sister Opare who is the wife of Bro Opare a long time member of the Munich 4th ward! I cant really remember how much I have talked to her, but basically after gave some good spiritual thoughts with her and talked a little more about the church she told her husband that she wanted to get baptized! We got word and quickly found the time to meet with them and talk things over. We picked out a date with her that is about a month away and she committed to be
baptized! We and her husband were so excited! The ward is kind of freaking out because she has been a long time friend of the ward but never really met with the missionaries! We met with her last night and retaught the restoration and she understood it so well. After the lesson Brother Opare said that when she prays at night she asks God if the things we teach her are true. She is so sweet and we are soo excited for her!

We also got a cool referral from some sisters in our zone of the guy named John King. We called him up and made an appointment out for earlier today. We went buy and he lives right on this amazingly
beautiful lake called Tegernsee! I had heard how pretty it is there so i was pretty excited to me able to go teach him. We met on a bench right on the lake and it was really a great lesson! The sistes had
already taught him a good amount of stuff so we talked to him a lot about baptism. We helped him to realize that is Joseph Smith really was a prophet that he needs to get baptized by the proper authority
into our church. We really thinks he was a prophet so we said he wanted to be baptized so we picked a date with him in a little over a month! He lives pretty far so we will see if he can make it to church!
Mal sehen.....

We did for the Pday part of the day wonder around the lake and take some cool pictures! I might have changed into my Lederhose to take some of them...

We are being really blessed by the Lord right now! I am very happy and am enjoying my mission! We are seeing some great things going on so we will just keep working hard!

Have a great week and I hope to hear from you all soon!
